History of the Guild

In December of 1980, a group of women decided to reorganize an existing quilter's guild. Blue Valley Quilters Guild was chosen as the name at the first meeting, held on the First Tuesday in January, 1981.  This first meeting was held in the basement of the Stanley Bank and was attended by 21 charter members.  Barbara Edstedt was the first President of the Guild.  After moving locations several times a the Guild grew, the Presbyterian Church of Stanley became our permanent home in 1997.

The Guild Today

The Blue Valley Quilters Guild is an organization dedicated to preserving and teaching the fine art of quilting.  We welcome all newcomers as well as experienced quilters to be a part of this outstanding guild.

Each year, guild members make an Opportunity Quilt as a fundraiser, to be raffled in a drawing at our December meeting.  Proceeds from the raffle are used to further the art of quilting through workshops and speakers at the monthly meetings, as well as other programs voted on by the membership.

Members are asked to wear name badges to each meeting so we are able to get to know each other.  New members are given a 2 month grace period before incurring a $.25 fine.  Members who do not remember their name tags are also assessed this $.25 fine which is donated to the library fund.
